Default "Stocks in Motion" Stock Screen
The default Stocks in Motion screen finds market-leading stocks near their
highs, with good relative strength and EPS rankings, and a strong accumulation/distribution
percentage. These stocks are the true market leaders, i.e., the ones with good numbers that
have been trading near their highs, on increasing volume.
The specific conditions are:
All stocks, near all-time high, close >= 20, avg vol >= 100K, A/D >= 60, RS rank >= 60, EPS rank >= 60, sorted by vol / XmaV50, limit 10 results.
In the query above, "all stocks" means it will search the entire database, as opposed
to a list of stocks. "Near all-time high" means today's high >= 93% of all-time
high and <= all-time high - 0.25 (note that this disalllows stocks actually making
a new high), and "avg volume" refers to the 50-day exponential moving average of volume. The
results of the stock screen are sorted by the ratio of the 17-day to the 50-day exponential
moving averages of volume to bring the most active ones (on an intermediate time-frame) to the top.
Data Table Columns
Please refer to the image above showing the table of the stock screener results.
The leftmost column shows the symbol. Clicking on the symbol (in the real table,
not the image) will pop up a chart. The next column is the Close, which shows the
closing prices in the latest datafile, not necessarily the end-of-day prices, and
after that is shown the Change in price for the current price bar relative to yesterday's
close (the screener works on daily price bars, updated intraday at 30 minute intervals), and the
Chg column show the price change from the previous day's close.
The Off ATH column shows the percentage of the current price below the the All Time High
(based on available data).
The Volume column shows the total volume of shares traded for the day, and the Vol
Surge column shows the percentage it is above or below the 50-day exponential moving
average of volume.
The RS Rank and EPS Rank columns show the rankings (from 0 to 100%) for Relative Strength and Earnings
Per Share growth and stability, as compared against all other stocks in the database.
The Acc/Dist column shows the current Accumulation / Distribution ratio. This is
a proprietary calculation; a 50% AD reading indicates an even balance
between buying and selling pressure. Above 50%, and
the buyers are in control.
